Education
I received both my Bachelor's and Master's degree from The College of Saint Rose. I have a Bachelor's in Childhood Education, Grades 1-6 and a Master's in Curriculum and Instruction, both received with honors. I have also attended The Sage College of Albany for Fine Arts.
My Journey
I have been working for the city school district since 2009. I started out as a building substitute at Delaware Community School, then a teacher's assistant for the 5th & 6th grade team North Albany Academy. The following year I worked with just the 6th grade team where I taught the grammar element of ELA. Throughout this time I taught 4th, 5th and 6th grade students of the Scholar's Program at Sage College of Albany. Here I taught an advanced and intense English Language Arts program for the City School District of Albany. I am now a certified AVID Instructor with 5 years experience. Since then I have taught the 6th and 5th grade at North Albany Academy in all subject areas, and in the past few years teaching 3rd grade Math & Science. I am excited to continue my teaching practice now working in the 4th grade implementing AVID and teaching Maths and Sciences here at Giffen Memorial Elementary School.
Why I Teach
I became a teacher because I want to inspire others and lead leaders. I want to help children fill their dreams and reach their goals, but most of all I want to give children the tools they need to be their own heroes.
Who I Am
You will hear that many know of me as a runner, you can say I am an endurance junkie. I am often training for a race and run all distances. I have run 12 marathons including the Boston Marathon and NYC, more halves than I can count with my fingers & numerous of smaller races. I love Duatholons, Sky Running and Trail Races as well! My son rides his bike on all distances during my training to keep me company and my daughter Olivia runs with me or runs a race from time to time with me. Both of my children attend the Albany City School District. I am also a 46er and have climbed over 300 mountains in the state of NY and just finishing New Hampshire now. I love to read and spend my time outdoors as much as possible. I also have a dog, a Giant Schnauzer named Skye who is HUGE and keeps me busy!
